Campus Life + Community Outreach
Extra-curricular activities are an integral part of the New Horizon International School Programme. To make our students school experience more enjoyable, educational and memorable we provide them the opportunity to explore beyond the traditional curriculum. We support and encourage our student body to participate in various events and competitions.
Heart to Heart Programme
Students from all over the world came together upon the invitation to China to experience the theme slogan of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games "One World One Dream" and spread Olympic ideals among youth. From Egypt, New Horizon International School was selected to attend this wonderful and memorable programme.
Extra-curricular activities
During the school year we offer a variety of extra-curricular activities for the students to enjoy. We strive to present activities that are suited for various age groups and interests. We offer : guitar lessons, dance, etiquette, drama, jazz, yoga and mindfulness, gardening, arts and crafts and leather work. All activities are presented by trained professionals.
Self-Awareness Programme
The Self-Awareness programme was launched in Egypt for the first time at New Horizon School in 2007. The sessions were structured to include guidelines for:
Self-discipline and respect
Yoga practice
Effective resolution of everyday challenges
Non-violence, compassion for self and all living beings
Hygiene and nutrition
Well-rounded and balanced physical and emotional health
Creative attention, concentration, relaxation techniques
El Shona 4th International Biennale Children's Art Competition
In June 2003 the Design Centre Cairo held a competition in order to encourage children of the world to create for a better future. The following New Horizon students received certificates in recognition for their work: Hana Khaled, Dina Muccio and Hania Karim.
Volunteer Child
In February 2002 New Horizon International School was one of three schools chosen in the Cairo area to participate in the Volunteer Child programme. The programme is run in connection with the Institute of Cultural Affairs Middle east and North Africa and the United Nations. The purpose is to increase the sense of social responsibility towards the community among children and assist in promoting compassion for others.
Waste 2001
In recognition of our students in the Egyptian National Environmental Campaign, we were one of three schools chosen, throughout Egypt, to participate in the Waste 2001 Middle East Congress and Exhibition for Recycling and Waste Management. Our students met with the Egyptian Minister of Environment, Mrs. Nadia Ebeid, along with the Syrian Minister of the Environment. The students took this opportunity to personally present Mrs. Nadia Ebeid with a beautifully executed photographic expose they had done themselves.
Environmental Festival 2000
As part of our on-going programme of supplemental English projects, our Preparatory students were among the top contributors to the Environmental 2000 Festival. This event was held November 2000 at the Cairo Opera House, under the auspices of the Egyptian Tourism Authority and the Cairo Sheraton. Our students conducted independent research, which included scientific experiments, video and photographic exposes, along with a wealth of other artistic and written material. At the conclusion of the festival our students donated the proceeds from hand-crafts they made and sold, to charity.
